We once leafed through the yellow book; today it's all on our phones. Golden Pages is a brand we all grew up with, and I had the privilege of redesigning it and giving it a modern digital experience. There's something especially exciting about taking part in renewing a brand that has been with us all for so many years.
The need
The way people look for businesses and professionals has changed completely, but behind Golden Pages still stands one of its most valuable assets: a huge database built over many years.
The challenge was to create a new search experience, simple and intuitive, while keeping the existing information and the complex relationships within the data. Every structural change called for careful thought, so the product could be renewed without harming the data foundation it relies on.
My work
On this project I was responsible for redesigning the user experience and interfaces from scratch, and for front-end development.
The process began with user research and understanding people's search habits and needs, moved on to planning the information architecture and building prototypes, and ended with designing and building the actual interfaces.
Along the way I dealt with questions behind every good search experience: how do you help users quickly find the right business? What information should come first? And how do you turn a huge database into a simple experience that doesn't overwhelm the user?
Being able to take the project from first thoughts all the way to code let me keep planning, design and the real user experience connected.
