At Netpay International I designed payment processing systems for businesses abroad. The challenge that excited me: turning large amounts of financial data into a clear working experience.

The need

In the world of payments, behind every credit transaction there is information to manage and decisions to make. When millions of dollars flowed through the products, turning transaction data into a clear picture was a challenge carrying real responsibility, and that is exactly what draws me to fintech.

My work with Netpay International was in credit card acquiring and payment processing, mainly for business owners abroad. Alongside the merchant portal, the back-office systems served the teams running operations behind the scenes. Each audience had different needs, but both had to find their way through a lot of financial information and take action.

On top of that came the white-label challenge: a platform offered under different brands, with a consistent user experience. The design had to bring together merchants' needs, operational work and product flexibility.

My work

I was part of a team of developers and DBAs who also became friends. They brought deep knowledge of the databases and payment processing, and I brought the users' point of view: how do you turn everything the system knows into information people can understand and work with?

I was responsible for the information architecture, the UX/UI design and all the front-end development of the back-office systems, the merchant portal and the store. From planning and design to building the interfaces on the client side. The work linked transaction data with work processes: what should appear at first glance, how to drill into a transaction and how to keep a clear flow between screens and actions.

Data visualization and information hierarchy helped give the financial data a structure people could read. Alongside that, I kept a consistent design language across the work environments and adapted it to different screens. In a financial product, users should spend their attention on the business decision, and the interface should help them get there.

The work focused on turning large volumes of payment data into a clear working experience. Working for merchants and teams overseas tied the design challenge to real financial activity.
